How to make a PayNow QR code

A PayNow QR code lets customers scan with their bank’s app and pay you in seconds: no cash, no card machine.

  1. Choose who they pay: your business UEN, or your mobile number registered for PayNow.
  2. Add a fixed amount and a reference if you like, or leave them for each customer to fill in.
  3. Download your card, print it and put it by your counter.

Questions

About PayNow QR codes

Is a PayNow QR code safe?

Yes. It holds only your UEN or mobile number, and the amount if you set one. Your customer’s banking app shows the name registered for PayNow before they pay, so they can see it is you. Keep printed codes where you can see them, so nobody sticks their own code over yours.

Which banking apps can scan it?

It uses the standard PayNow QR format that Singapore’s banking apps read. Scan it with your own banking app before you print it: it should show your business name.

Should I put an amount?

Leave it empty for a code at your counter that customers use for any amount. Put an amount for a fixed price or an invoice: then your customer cannot change it.

Can I use my mobile number instead of a UEN?

Yes, if it is registered for PayNow. Customers then see your own name, as your bank has it.

Does it cost anything, or expire?

It is free, and made in your browser: we never see your details or your payments. A code without an amount never expires; one with an amount works for five years.
