How to make a PowerPoint smaller
A big .pptx is almost always its photos, pasted in at camera size. Saved at the size each one shows on its slide, the file gets much smaller and the slides look the same.
- Choose how small. Balanced suits most decks. Best quality is for printing.
- Drop in your PowerPoint (.pptx). It is made smaller in your browser, never uploaded.
- Download the smaller PowerPoint, then email or upload it.
Questions
About compressing PowerPoint files
Is it safe to compress a PowerPoint here?
Yes. Your file is made smaller in your own browser, on this page. It is never uploaded, so nobody else sees it, not even us.
What gets smaller?
The photos. They are most of a big presentation, and often far bigger than a screen can show. Each one is saved again at the size it appears on its slide. Your text, slides, animations and notes stay exactly as they are.
Why did my file not get much smaller?
Most of its size is probably video, or photos that are already small. Videos stay as they are here: in PowerPoint on Windows, File, Info, Compress Media makes them smaller.
Does it work with .ppt files, Keynote and Google Slides?
It works with .pptx, the format PowerPoint has used since 2007, and with .pptx files saved from Keynote or Google Slides. For an older .ppt file, open it in PowerPoint and save it as .pptx first.
Is there a limit?
Nothing to sign up for and no daily limit, for files up to 500 MB. Big files work best on a computer.
