How to compress a PDF

Most of a PDF’s size is its photos and scans. Saved at a sensible size, they make the file much smaller, and the text stays as sharp as before.

  1. Choose how small. Balanced suits most files. Smallest file is for strict email or upload limits.
  2. Drop in your PDF. It is made smaller right here, in your browser, and never uploaded.
  3. Download the smaller PDF and send it. Your original stays as it was.

Questions

About compressing PDFs

Is it safe to compress a PDF here?

Yes. Your PDF is made smaller in your own browser, on this page. It is never uploaded, so nobody else sees it: that matters for NRIC copies, payslips, bank statements and contracts.

Why did my PDF not get much smaller?

A PDF that is mostly text is already compact: the savings come from photos and scans. Fonts and drawings stay exactly as they are, so the text never gets worse.

Will the quality drop?

The text stays just as sharp, and you can still select and search it. Photos and scans are saved at a lower resolution: Balanced keeps them clear to read and print, Smallest file makes them a little softer.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on any recent phone or computer. Very large files work best on a computer.

Is there a limit?

Nothing to sign up for and no daily limit, for files up to 250 MB.
